Low Temperature Optical Microscopy

The LV100 Pol from Nikon is an optical microscope designed to work in transmission mode, reflection mode and polarized light. A specific instrumental set-up has been developed to perform measurements as function of temperature (10K -350K). The cooling is based on a helium cryostat (Oxford instruments) and a helium-tight cell has been designed to ensure an efficient cooling of the sample. A fast CCD camera (100 fps) is coupled to the microscope. The set-up is dedicated to the visualization of “fast” dynamics of phase transitions in single crystal samples.
